Summary: Milestone Projects

Here is a grouping of images of all the major assignments we under took this semester in OBDF 210. I did not take OBDF 110, so this was my first extensive exposure to a 3D Cad environment and Rhino. Hopefully these images will show my progression as we completed the major assignments throughout the semester. Thank you Bryan, I thoroughly enjoyed the course. Assignment 1,  Castle: Rear Gate Rendered Castle: Front Wall Artistic Assignment 2, Surface Design: Surface Design Laser Cut: Assignment 3, Reverse Engineered Hand Plane, Assembled:  Reverse Engineered Hand Plane, Exploded View: Assignment 4, Chess Set: 6 Chess Pieces:

3D Printed Chess Set: PLA-tonic Solids

These are the 3D printed models of my six chess pieces photographed on a matte black seamless background. The King is the made from three Icosahedron (20 sided) objects made from equilateral (all sides are the same size) triangles. The Queen from Dodecahedron (12 Sided) objects. The Bishop from an Octahedron (8 sided) object on a plinth. The Knight is formed from an amalgamation of the Pawn which is a tetrahedron (4 sided) object and the Bishop. These were my initial concept sketches, where I researched the standard forms and dimensions of chess sets, and board proportions given in the provided source material for the assignment. I choose the board  square size to be 2.5" (63.5mm) and scaled everything from there. The surface angles for the 12 and 20 sided shapes were obtained from a UBC math website  https://personal.math.ubc.ca/~cass/courses/m308-05b/projects/cchang/webpages/icosahedron.html  and  https://personal.math.ubc.ca/~cass/courses/m308-05b/projects/cchang/...
